The Manor Course opened in the spring of 1994. The course measures 6,408 yards from the back tees with a par of 72. This parkland course, designed by Neil Coles MBE and built to USGA standards, was once Essex farmland. The River Roding meanders through the course thus providing a natural and challenging feature. In Roman times the Woolston Hall Estate, to which this area of land once belonged, was used by families to wash their wool and clothes. A large stone was placed on the edge of the river for this chore. Hence the name Wool ston. Under a heading of the Ongar 100's, an entry was made in the Doomsday Book describing the Woolston Hall Estate as a small battlement. A small fort could be seen on the area surrounding the 15th green guarding the estate, some 500 yards from the present day entrance. Today the course boasts a 'state of the art' irrigation system, which provides the golfer with lush fairways even in the driest of summers. The numerous water features and large bunkering make this a challenging course. Yet still encouraging a natural wildlife habitat with a pair of resident swans, numerous types of freshwater fish and an abundance of butterflies in summer.
